Small and well-located, Estancia La Elvira is a really great example of a traditional, working farm and, located close to some of the best orca hunting areas, it offers a great opportunity to see plenty of good wildlife. The Estancia itself is fairly simple inside (as are most of the working ranches left in Argentina), but it has a certain charm to it and, with its great location it is superb, and a less expensive alternative to Rincon Chico.

Probably the best located of the 3 estancias on the Peninsular for viewing elephant seals and is also where there can be very good orca sightings year round due to the small inlet just off the coast. Estancia La Elvira is, today, still an active sheep ranch and so it offers a bit of a glimpse into the lives of the famous “Gaucho” or, as is the case these days, the traditional farm worker. In September it is even possible to go so far as to help shear the sheep for around a week.

As with the other estancias on the peninsular, the rooms and general accommodation is fairly simple with Estancia La Elvira being the only estancia to have a small pool. Around the estancia there is a wealth of natural beauty and so there is plenty on offer for those that are looking to be a little more active on their holiday. While we would still probably opt for the nearby Rincon Chico estancia (if money were no object), La Elvira is a great choice for those that are particularly keen on sighting the infamous “beaching” orcas of this area of the world.

Great access to orcas and elephant seals, good location, activities

Fairly simple decor
