Review

When it comes to immersing oneself in Colombia’s premium coffee region, Hacienda Bambusa really does have it all. This beautiful, 8-bedroom property’s tranquil setting is a private estate bursting with cacao, banana, plantain & lemon trees and an abundance of birdlife. There are plenty of activities on and around the hacienda itself, plus the location is idea to venture out on an excursion to explore the array of attractions in this fascinating part of Colombia. The staff are genuinely a lovely, friendly bunch and are happy help arrange any special requirements for their guests, such as hot-air ballooning or paragliding.

Location

Hacienda Bambusa is only a 30-minute drive from Armenia airport, which is itself only a 30-minute flight from Bogota. Pereira airport (50 mins from Bogota), is around 90 minutes by road.

As well as being close to numerous coffee-testing plantations, the Hacienda is also close enough to popular destinations such as Salento, Filandia and the Corcora Valley, to include day-trips during your stay. Being close to the equator and at 1,500m above sea level, Hacienda Bambusa generally gets warm days with cooler, wetter nights, most of the year.

Layout

The ranch house is split over two levels. The ground floor is set around an open courtyard with a water fountain and has 5 of the 8 rooms, plus the reception, kitchen and restaurant. The second floor features the 3 remaining rooms. Outside, there is a terrace with seating, the swimming pool and the spa. Guests are also encouraged to explore the surrounding gardens.

Rooms

Hacienda Bambusa has just 8 rooms, categorised as two Junior Suites, three Superior rooms and three Standard rooms. The Junior Suites plus the Azulejo Superior room are located on the second floor and each has a private balcony; with the Suites overlooking the pool. On the ground floor are the remaining five rooms, all with a private terrace. The two ground floor Superior rooms have the larger terraces and face the pool. All rooms are individually decorated with local artwork, are en-suite and have air-con.

Features

One of the reasons we love Hacienda Bambusa so much is for the excellent range of features/activities available, most of which are included (subject to board-basis). As well as the pool and spa (offering treatments & yoga), other onsite activities include a Cacao tour & workshop, bird-watching and cooking classes. There are local activities such as horse-riding, biking, coffee tasting, hiking, aguardiente tasting and zip-lining; plus excursions to the likes of Salento and Cocora Valley. Don’t forget, if you want to treat yourself, splash out on a spot of paragliding or hot-air ballooning!

A wonderful experience, even if you don’t leave the hacienda!

Remote - you can’t ”pop into town” (why would you want to?)
