Review

Named after a Colombian waterlily found in the Amazon, the Sofitel shares the flower’s attributes of beauty and strength. Or so the hotel tells us! What we can say is that this 5-star property has successfully combined contemporary, French design with a Colombian influence. This is exemplified in the grandiose marble lobby, where a vast art deco glass skylight illuminates the artwork on the walls below, lined with paintings from local artists such as Manuela Echeverri. For those looking for a 5-star brand name in the popular Zona Rosa area of Bogota, this would be our recommendation.

Location

The Sofitel Bogota Victoria Regia Hotel has a key location in the northern area of Bogota, at a walking distance from La Zona Rosa (also called Zona T). This area is well known within the city for its selection of designer boutiques, a varied gastronomy and entertainment options, night life and shopping centres, such as Centro Andino. It is approximately 45min from El Dorado International Airport and 40min to La Candelaria colonial area and its’ attractions.

Layout

The aforementioned impressive lobby provides access to the ‘library’ (a cosy snug that proves a quiet space to relax and read) as well as the sweeping staircase leading up to the well-respected Basilic Bar & Restaurant, serving French cuisine. Elevators provide access to the rooms, across the 8 floors of the building.

Rooms

Sofitel Bogota Victoria Regia hotel has a total of 102 rooms, split into four main category: Classic (x10), Superior (x64), Luxury (x23) and 5 Junior Suites with balconies, three of which have private Jacuzzis. All rooms are equipped with air-con, cable-TV, flatscreen TV, minibar, hairdryer, desk, safety deposit box, ipod dock and Wi-Fi (each room has its own modem). All guests also have access to use of an umbrella and shopping bags (to be borrowed rather than kept). A touch we really liked was the fruit basket on arrival, complete with a ‘how to eat’ guide (more useful than you might imagine!).

Features

As well as the Sofitel’s Basilic Restaurant, the hotel also offers 24-hour room service, a bar, disabled facilities, self-service business center, undercover and valet parking, dry cleaning service, babysitting services on request, 3 meeting rooms, a 24-hour gym, beauty salon and massage area.

Location, staff and comfort

With 102 rooms, this is one of Bogota’s larger hotels, and so loses some feeling of intimacy
