Review

Still working as a cattle Estancia, Tipiliuke Lodge is a true home away from home. Nestling in a forest to the north of St Martin, this private getaway offers five star treatment in a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. Perfect as a base for the many activities such as horse riding, fly fishing and walking that can be done in the area, the food and general ambience is superb…we can’t speak more highly!

A small estancia, located to the north of San Martin de los Andes, Tipiluike Lodge is a home away from home and has a very English country house feel to it, with beautiful gardens and even a babbling brook running past the house.

The concept behind the property is that it is a base for hunting, fly fishing, riding and generally relaxing in the stunning hills that surround it. The topography here is slightly different to that of the interior of the lakes themselves and the rainfall here is around half that of Bariloche as it is located just to the east of the watershed.

Tipiliuke Lodge is, nominally, still a working ranch for cattle and so they maintain around 4,000 cattle for sale for meat as well as a few sheep. But the main draw that they have is that they have a whole host of activities that can be done such as some of the best fly fishing and red stag hunting in the whole of Argentina.

The rooms are all very comfortable with a simple feel to them. The main house is run on an honour system when the staff are not there and so, if you fancy drinking the night away, then this is possible. The food and service generally is to a very high standard.

We are big fans of Tipiliuke LOdge as it really is a comfortable place to stay. All of the rooms have their own French windows opening out onto a different part of the gardens and so make you feel like you are staying at a friend’s house rather than a hotel. The food is to a very high standard and, while it is not quite the lake region, it is simple enough to drive down to this area or even move down to Villa la Angostura to stay with the views on your doorstep. A superb place to stay for a few nights at least and benefit from the fly-fishing or general ambience of being in the middle of nowhere.

Beautiful accommodation and area, great food/service, activities galore

Not cheap!
