Hidden Journeys Programme

A few weeks ago, we were approached by the Royal Geographical Society and asked if we could make a bit of noise about their (relatively) new project, the “Hidden Journeys”. In this series, they have put together a collection of various photos and information from geographical journeys across various terrains and, for this latest “flight” they chose to cover the varied and diverse terrain that spans between Buenos Aires and Santiago. Please have a look at their press release below and a few of the outstanding photos from the series.

Argentina was specially chosen by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) to feature on the latest flight path to be mapped for their Hidden Journeys Project. The Hidden Journeys Project aims to enliven the flying experience by providing interactive guides to air travellers about the parts of the world they fly over from departure to arrival (http://hiddenjourneys.co.uk/)

The latest guide to be released covers the flight path from Buenos Aires to Santiago, exploring the mountains, rivers and human history which lie between two of South America’s capital cities.

The route between Buenos Aires and Santiago cuts through the heart of Argentina and Chile’s iconic landscapes and cultures.

90% of the two hour route between Buenos Aires and Santiago will be spent gazing at the Argentinian landscape below. From Buenos Aires and the Rio de la Plata on the east coast, across the vast Pampas grasslands until Cuyo’s vineyards begin to rise into the Andes Mountains forming the country’s western border. Each landscape has its own cultural identity that is usually closely tied to the landscape.

The remaining 10% of the flight is a spectacular descent into Santiago: the city is framed by the white peaks of the Andes, and offers an interesting comparison to the rest of the flight path.?

Hidden Journeys is currently working towards incorporating its geo-entertainment content onto moving maps as part of aircraft in-flight entertainment: in the future, thousands of people could learn about the fascinating parts of the Earth that they fly over.
